Principal photography began on 19 February 2009, and was completed on 12 June 2010,[4] with the final day of reshoots taking place on 21 December 2010, marking the series' closure of ten years of filming.[5] Part 2 was released in both 2D and 3D cinemas worldwide from 13–15 July 2011. Plot

After giving Dobby a proper burial at Shell Cottage, Harry speaks with Griphook the Goblin about breaking into Bellatrix Lestrange's vault at Gringotts bank, as Bellatrix's reaction suggested that a Horcrux may be there. Griphook agrees to take Harry, Ron, and Hermione to the vault in exchange for the goblin-made Sword of Gryffindor. Harry asks Ollivander, the wandmaker, to identify two wands they took from Malfoy Manor. Ollivander says they belonged to Bellatrix and Draco Malfoy, but Malfoy's wand has changed its allegiance to Harry.
At Bellatrix's vault, Harry discovers the Horcrux, Helga Hufflepuff's Cup, despite curses placed on the vault contents, but Griphook takes the sword and abandons the students, as he did not agree to help them leave. The three release the dragon guardian of the vault and fly away. Harry looks into Voldemort's mind and learns that Voldemort has discovered the theft and killed many goblins in retaliation, including Griphook; the sword of Gryffindor disappeared. Voldemort keeps Nagini—his snake and living Horcrux—with him at all times for protection. Harry also learns there is a Horcrux at Hogwarts, in some way related to Rowena Ravenclaw.
Harry, Ron, and Hermione apparate into Hogsmeade, which sets off a Caterwauling Charm alarm. They are rescued by Aberforth Dumbledore, Professor Dumbledore's brother. The discouraged Aberforth instructs a portrait of his younger sister, Ariana to fetch Neville Longbottom, who leads the three friends through a secret passage back to Hogwarts and reunites them with other student allies. Harry asks the students for help in looking for the unknown Horcrux; the only suggestion is the long-lost Diadem of Rowena Ravenclaw, but this has not been seen for centuries.
Severus Snape, now headmaster of Hogwarts, hears of Harry's return and informs everyone of the severe punishment for aiding Harry. Harry confronts Snape, and Professor McGonagall causes Snape to flee. Voldemort threatens Hogwarts to give Harry to him, and McGonagall gathers the community of Hogwarts to prepare for battle. Luna Lovegood directs Harry to speak to Helena Ravenclaw. Helena eventually reveals that Voldemort performed "dark magic" on her mother's diadem, which is hidden somewhere in the Room of Requirement. Meanwhile, Ron and Hermione go to the Chamber of Secrets, where Hermione destroys the cup Horcrux with a Basilisk fang; after a near-death experience, the two profess their love for each other and kiss. In the Room of Requirement, Malfoy and his friends Gregory Goyle and Blaise Zabini attack Harry, but Ron and Hermione intervene. Goyle casts a Fiendfyre curse and dies in the uncontrolled flames, but Malfoy and Zabini are saved by Harry and his friends. Harry and Ron destroy the Ravenclaw diadem. The school is under attack by Voldemort's forces, including fearsome giants. The three search for Voldemort, intending to kill Nagini. They witness Voldemort telling Snape that the Elder Wand cannot be truly his until Snape dies, and has Nagini kill Snape. Before dying, Snape gives Harry some memories via a tear, and tells Harry to look at them using the Pensieve in Dumbledore's office. When the three go inside they see many have been killed, including Fred Weasley, Lavender Brown, Remus Lupin, and his wife Nymphadora Tonks.
Harry learns from Snape's memories that Snape and his mother were childhood friends, and Snape loved her. Following her killing, Snape agreed with Albus Dumbledore to protect Harry from Voldemort out of his love for her, despite hating Harry's father. Harry himself became a Horcrux, since he contains part of Voldemort's soul that split off at the time of his mother's death. Dumbledore told Snape that Harry has to die to destroy the Horcrux within him. Harry goes alone to meet his death at the hands of Voldemort in the Forbidden Forest and uses the Resurrection Stone, hidden in a snitch Dumbledore left in his will to Harry, to summon the spirits of his parents, Sirius Black, and Remus Lupin, who say they will stay with him to the end. Voldemort casts a Killing Curse at him. Harry finds himself in a strange white limbo, where the spirit of Dumbledore meets him and explains that the part of Voldemort within him was killed by Voldemort's own curse, and that Harry has the choice to return to the world or to die. Harry returns to his body, and Bellatrix asks if Harry is dead. Narcissa walks up to Harry and asks him in a soft whisper if Draco is alive. Harry manages a nod, and Narcissa tells Voldemort and the Death Eaters that he is dead. Harry feigns death until Hagrid, carrying Harry's body, returns with Voldemort and the Death Eaters to Hogwarts. Voldemort declares to everyone that Harry is dead, to which Ginny cries out for him. Voldemort says that anyone who defies him will be destroyed, and encourages the students to join him, but no one does. Narcissa and Lucius call Draco over, and he reluctantly joins his parents. Neville gives a short speech that people die everyday and Harry did not die in vain, but out of bravery and love for his friends. Harry opens his eyes and falls out of Hagrid's arms and reveals that he is alive, to everyone's surprise. Neville draws forth the sword of Gryffindor, and as Harry begins his duel with Voldemort across the courtyard, Neville decapitates Nagini, the last of the Horcruxes, making Voldemort mortal. During the battle, as Bellatrix is about to finish off Ginny, Molly appears and kills Bellatrix. The Dark Lord is then killed by his own Killing Curse as the Elder Wand rebounds it on him and flies into Harry's hands. After the battle, Harry walks through Hogwarts and sees the place in ruins, but everyone is slowly recovering from the confrontation. Harry explains to his friends that the Elder Wand had recognised him as its master because he had disarmed Draco Malfoy at Malfoy Manor, who in turn had disarmed its previous owner, Dumbledore. Ron notes that possessing the Wand makes Harry invincible, but Harry snaps the Elder Wand in half and throws each half over the side of the Hogwarts bridge, rejecting this power.
Nineteen years later, Harry and Ginny Potter, along with Ron and Hermione Weasley and the Malfoys, now each married, see their children off on the Hogwarts Express. Harry's middle child, Albus Severus, worries about the possibility of him being sorted into Slytherin house. Harry tells his son of Snape's courage and assures him that Slytherin is a respectable house, but that the Sorting Hat will take into account Albus's preference for Gryffindor. The Potters and the Weasleys watch proudly as their children leave
